Portia Anne Landrum English of Raleigh, NC formerly of East Chicago passed away on January 19, 2009. She was 59. Born in East Chicago and raised in Gary, Indiana, she graduated from Tolliston High School. Portia received a degree in Biology from Fisk University in Nashville, TN. Upon graduation she moved to Miami, Florida were she became a flight attendant for Delta Airlines. She also attended the University of Miami School of Nuclear Medicine. Portia practiced her love of science for over thirty years as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
She is survived by her son Samad Griffin, her daughter Tiy-Marjani Griffin and her grand-daughter Aanissa Griffin. She also leaves behind her siblings Kimberly Thomas, Regina Landrum and Mark Tyson.
A memorial service will be held at the Cremation Society of the Carolinas on Saturday, January 24, 2009 from 12-5.
