Chair of the Fisk Chemistry Department Director of Graduate Studies Selected to participate in the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) "Extramural Associates" program, and granted a leave of absence for the Spring '97 semester to spend the period from January through May at the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland. Faculty Associate in the Fisk University Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) under the sponsor ship of the NIH Extramural Associates Program, where she will work with faculty members to assist and encourage their grant application activity. Conducted a grant writing program at the Fisk Faculty Staff Institute in August of 1997 and a more fully developed and extensive half-day grantsmanship workshop was presented for faculty, staff and graduate students in November 1997. Will soon conduct a Capability Study and will prepare a Capability Assessment which will include Fisk University's abilities for sponsoring and conducting research and other sponsored educational programs. Planning to implement a program where more experienced investigators are paired with recent Ph.D. recipients to provide mentoring in the grant application experience and in establishing their research projects. Will be working to identify other institutions and researchers who are willing to collaborate with Fisk University in the submission of cooperative grant applications.
